Recycling and Trash Rollout

Carts Coming September 2025

A Cleaner & Greener Madison Heights

Madison Heights Trash & Recycling Cart Program

Coming September 2025!

Why is the rollout delayed?

The transition from GFL to Priority Waste last summer delayed the cart rollout. The City's current trash contract expires on June 30, 2025, and we will rebid the service soon, and include the rollout of this program in the contract.

Who will receive a cart?

All single-family homes will receive two Madison Heights branded carts:

  • One 96-gallon black trash cart
  • One 64-gallon blue recycling cart

Can I get a cart now?

You may purchase a trash cart now if you need one, but carts purchased prior to the rollout will not be reimbursed.

What if I already have a cart?

We strongly recommend using the new carts for efficient collection. However, if you prefer to continue using your existing carts, you’re welcome to do so. Old carts can also be repurposed in various ways, such as for yard waste. Plus, plans are underway to offer residents the option to recycle their old trash and recycling carts. Stay tuned for more details!

What are the benefits of the new carts?

Less Litter – Secure carts reduce loose trash, keeping streets cleaner.

Fewer Pests – Lids help prevent rats and other pests.

Better Recycling – our grant-funded program encourages responsible recycling.

Efficiency – Standardized carts streamline trash collection.
