The sites below are resources for finding and sharing 3D models. Users are responsible for reviewing and adhering to copyright and sharing privileges attributed by original creators.

  • Thingiverse
    MakerBot's Thingiverse is a community for discovering, making, and sharing 3D printables. Designs are encouraged to be licensed under a Creative Commons license.
  • Printables
    Community site for 3D printer users. Discover thousands of great printable 3D models, download them for free and read interesting articles about 3D printing.
  • STL Finder
    Search engine for 3D printable .stl files.
  • YouMagine
    YouMagine is an online community of 3D printing enthusiasts who wish to work together to share, remix and make better 3D printed things.  
  • Cults 3D
    Cults is a digital marketplace for 3D printing and design. Use our 3D model library to discover everything you can do with a 3D printer.

Slicing Software

Cura is a free, open-source software that prepares files for printing by converting to GCODE. 

You can download Cura to preview the print layers, print size, and potential costs before submitting your file for printing.

Slic3r is another open-source software that can be used to convert a 3D model into printing instructions for a 3D printer. 

It cuts the model into horizontal slices (layers), generates toolpaths to fill them and calculates the amount of material to be extruded.

3D Modeling Software

Below are websites and resources for creating and editing 3D models, and preparing files for 3D printing. 

  • TinkerCAD

    A simple, free online 3D design and 3D printing app for everyone, and a good place to start for beginners. Users will need to sign up for a free account.

  • Blender

    Blender is the free and open source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation.

  • ZBrushCoreMini

    A free downloadable 3D modeling/sculpting software, with a more advanced version (ZBrush) available for a fee (Intermediate).

3D Print Request

  1. Guidelines

    Submit your 3D print files in a .zip folder.

    The 3D printer has a maximum build volume of 150x150x150 mm (about 5.9 inches on the X, Y, & Z planes).

    Print requests are printed with normal resolution and 15% infill unless otherwise requested. For setting requests, such as scale changes, please describe them in the field below.

    Creative Techspace staff will send you a confirmation and a time/price estimate for your print.

    All print requests are subject to Library policies. The patron is responsible for adhering to copyright laws.
