Spring Clean Up - “Trash Amnesty Day”

The City of Madison Heights and GFL Environmental USA Inc. (the City’s refuse contractor) are sponsoring a Spring Clean Up Day on May 6th from 8:00 am until 12 noon. This event will be held at the Department of Public Services at 801 Ajax Drive.
The trash amnesty day is meant to encourage residents to clean out garages, basements, and yards. Residents will be able to haul their trash and debris to the Department of Public Services where staff will unload the vehicle into one of the waiting trash trucks or roll-off waste receptacles. A wide variety of items will be accepted, but only after proof of residency is provided. All items will be disposed of as trash. Hazardous waste will NOT be accepted.
Accepted Items • Bricks • Shingles (limited quantity only - no roofing jobs - miscellaneous pieces only) • Swing sets cut in 3 – 4 foot lengths and bundled so one person can handle • Drywall and other building or house improvement debris from your remodeling projects only • Glass windows • Concrete - even if attached to something • Sod, logs, root balls and stumps • Aluminum foil • Car parts (not batteries) • Tires • Refrigerators, stoves, washers & dryers • Bathtubs (even cast iron) • Carpet and padding cut in 3 – 4 foot width and tied so one person can manage it • Beds, mattresses and box springs - NO BED BUGS PLEASE • Sinks & toilets • Hot water tanks • Couches & chairs • Garage doors – cut in sections and bundled so one person can handle • Railroad ties and wooden fencing cut and bundled in 3-foot sections • Dried Latex Paint
The accepted items list is almost endless and available to single-family households with proof of residency. Contractors, Liquids and Household Hazardous Waste will NOT be permitted.
